David John Doree Vicary (Daud Vicary Abdullah)
David is a Chartered Professional in Islamic Finance (CPIF) & FCPA (Aus). He had over 16 years in Management Consulting to the Financial Services Industry (1988 – 2005), preceded by 15 years working for Banks in Operations and control (1973 – 1988). Returned to Banking between 2005 – 2008 in leadership positions in Islamic Banking in Malaysia. Established an Islamic Finance Consultancy (DVA Consulting Sdn Bhd) in November 2008. He was appointed Global leader of Deloitte’s Global Islamic Finance Group (GIFG) with effect 1 June 2009 until June 2011, CEO and President of INCEIF (International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance) August 2011 -July 2017.
He co-authored, with Keon Chee, a book on Islamic finance entitled “ISLAMIC FINANCE: WHY IT MAKES SENSE” published by Marshall Cavendish 2009. A second Edition 2013
A frequent commentator and speaker on Islamic Finance, David was appointed to the Board of AAOIFI in December 2003 – 2007, installed as a Distinguished Fellow of the Islamic Finance and Banking Institute of Malaysia (IBFIM) in July 2007. He is a member of UK Governments GIFIG (March 2014-17), Board of Trustees of the Responsible Finance Foundation (January 2015), Chairman of Advisory Board IslamicMarkets.com (2018), Chairman of Advisory Board at Fasset (2019), Chairman of Advisory Board for ISLAMIC Finance at AIFC Kazakhstan (2018-20), Trustee at Gateway Global (2020), Consultant on Islamic Social Finance to IFRC (2018-20), Shura member at Ethis Ventures (2019) and Chairman of the Board at Ethis Ventures from December 2021. He is also a Board Member at Digital Bank (2019) and Sustainability Consultant at DDCAP Group (2018) and was appointed to the Board at Finalytix in April 2020.
David was the recipient of the 2014 LARIBA Recognition Award for Excellence in Riba Free Banking AAA award 2015.
